VATS box?
I'm new to this site, and i don't really know a whole lot about cars. But i have always wanted to learn more. i got a 92 RS w/ a 3.1 about 5 months ago and since then i have been much more interisted and want to learn more. I even recently got a part time job on the weekends working at a shop. But now my camaro will not start. Something w/ the ignition is wrong. The key will turn far enough to turn everything on, but not far enough to make the motor turn over. So i tried running a push button ignition, but for some odd reason that doesn't work either. The starter spins, and the belts and all spin, and i'm getting spark, but it just wont turn over. I have even replaced the ignition switch w/ one i got from Advance Auto. But the key doesn't have a chip and i think that's my problem. b/c the new switch didn't fix my problem. it did the same thing. it went far enough to turn everything on, but not start it. so now that that idea fell through, and the push button ignition didn't work, the only other think i can think to do is buy another steering column. But there are only 3 on EBAY. and the only one that i think will work comes w/ a VATS box. do i need this and what is it supposed to do? Should i get this one and replace the one i currently have?

Yes you need that VATS control module that you are speaking of. BTW, you already have one in your car. Do you still have the old key with the pellet in it? If you do, just go get yourself another lock cylinder with the wires on it and then get a key cut for it from the dealership with the same resistance value as the original key. You can by-pass the starter the way that you are going but you can't by-pass the fuel injectos.
