So today the warning buzzer intermittanlty crackled on and off and the security light stayed on. The car wouldn't start.
I now the VATS wiring in the ignition barrel is faulty or the wiring around there because the barrel jiggles loosely and without a key everything turns on.

I either remove my steering wheel and try to find the fault and /or just replace the key drum with a new sets of keys. (sounds expensive from GM)
But instead of that can I just disable VATS on the computer chip?????????
I'd rather order a new chip than a new key set.

My car wouldn't start today and unfortunatly after an hour of fiddling with the ignition and checking wires and reading the codes and dissconnecting the battery a few times I found a little hammer I had in the car. Minor damage .
I got a tiny bit angry.
sorry if this thread should be in the DIY efi board.

Ok I've found more time to search better and read I can disable the VATS in the ECM. Is there anything else I need to do to bypass the VATS?

Any problems with doing it through the chip?

I'm going to try and get into the steering column and find the loose wires. TIps or pic's or diagrams???

I had to post to vent, in the last month I've spent nearly $600 on my baby firebird and it still looks like it's ready for the junk heap and I'm still seeing nothing but expense and time.
But I luv it still
