intermittent wiper..please help

Hello all,
I have a 1989 firebird. I need some help. My intermittent wiper function is not working, (when I turn on the intermittent function the wipers operate in slow mode, no matter where I have the setting at) It stop working once I replaced the wiper/turn signal/cruise control level. So I next replaced the wiper motor cover which is the controller. Still no intermittent function After looking at the turn signal level I have found that the wiper function is mechanical There is metal rod in the column, from what I see moves down or up to turn on the wiper, but I have no idea how this is happening. I have no idea how the wiper motor controller gets the signal for intermittent or even the signal for slow or fast. Can someone please help me out to troubleshoot this problem?
Thanks in Advance

Get out your ohmmeter and some long leads. Verify the wiring between the column-mounted switch and the wiper control module:
