can you use an aftermarket ignition switch instead of replacing the computer chip key? if so is there any wires i need to disconnect? any help would be appreciated greatly.

Not sure I follow what you are wanting to do here. Do you want to replace the ignition switch under the dash or the lock cylinder in the steering column?

Yes, you can buy aftermarket lock cylinders that don't have the computer chip in the key. However they will not work in your car unless you disable the VATS system in the car either by getting a customized eprom chip for the computer with the VATS disabled or by installing a set of resistors in the wire harness under the dash for the VATS control module that matches the resistance value of the original key. What problems are you having?
