Am I Fuc#@$

In the process of moving I lost the only set of keys to my
86 Camaro.

The car is at my old nieghbors house. I tried doing a search and didnt come up with much i dont know if many have been in my situation. Does 86 have VATS, my key doesnt have that pellet on it.
My neig. was telling me to put a flathead sd in the ingnition and bang on it with a hammer till the tumblers break and then turn the ignition to start it. Tony was telling me i can order a new ingnition set and key. I dont want to smash up my ingnition, I will if i HAVE to. not even sure if it'll work though. I dont know much about all this electronic stuff.
SO is there anyother way without smashing my ignition,
I know im gonna have to buy the ignition/key set anyways. so i might just do that b/c my cars parked on the street.
anyhelp on this, i've been looking for the keys all day.

Buy it, pull the wheel and install the new one. You will need a steering wheel puller and a tool to compress the lock plate. The cylinder is dirt cheap (>$20) and this way you won't damage the column.

i want my TWO DOLLARS!!

the screw driver thing might work. my 86 does not have vats.
i would recomend doing it the right way and getting a new ignition key. will take longer but it will pay off.

Yeah, ima go ahead and get the ignition set for it tomorrow.
I just get worried about my car being parked on the road, b/c they usually get broken into. Excpecially on the weekends when kids are off school.

Don't use a screw driver. You risk breaking the housing around the ign cyl and then things can start getting expensive. Take it apart the right way, not that big of a deal.

why dont you take your copy of the title to a local chevrolet dealership and have them grind you a new key right there for a couple of bucks? Just call around, there are some that can do that for you!

I second this idea!! I had to do this for a 91 eagle talon, and they didnt even ask for the title. just brought in the VIN and the key they cut worked fine... In our case, someone towed the car but wouldnt give us they keys back, so we had to go that route...

all you needed was the vin? that sucks. anyone could just look at your car and go get a new key for it and then steal it.

Yeah, thats what I thought too... kinda scary... But he didnt blink twice, just handed the VIN, cut the key, it was like 10 bucks or something, and we were gone...
