How to open rear hatch without key

I bought a parts car and the guy I bought the car from didn't have the key for the rear hatch. The switch in the console is gone but the connector is still there. So I took a battery and applyed power to each wire but the grounds, and the only thing that happend was one of the lights turned on underneath the drivers side dash .

I'd like to open the hatch without destorying anything, preferably from applying power to it... I just don't know which wires do what. If someone could help me out.. Thanks!

The connection for the release switch is two seperate wires, each with a similar connector, not the connector with 3 or more wires into it.
I don't recall offhand what colors they are, but if you put a jumper across them (and have a battery hooked up to ground and the fuse block) the solenoid should pop.
When you were probing around earleir, you applied power to the interior lighting circuit

Jumpered the plugs and it clicked. The seliniod didn't pop but whenever I touched the second plug it just clicked. Something is happening, but not what I had hoped for .

The wiring may be messed up to the point of no return there. Can I dig the wiring out of the wires that come up the side of the car and do it that way?

OK, just the small black relay in the console clicked, right?
If so, unplug it, and apply 12V power to one of the black wires on the connector at that point; or better yet, if you can get into the wiring harness that runs on top of the drivers rear wheelwell/speaker area and apply the 12V to the black wire in there as it would be safer in case one is a ground at the relay.
If it weren't pouring rain here, I'd check an old harness I have here to be sure.

Taking the connector off worked, thanks, I'm so happy ^_^.
