HEI Ignition woes

Hi all,
I've been a ford man all my life and decided to do something different. I bought a 79 TA with a 301 4V. Have replaced all 8 plugs, wires, dist. cap, coil, rotor, Ignition module and pickup coil. I set the plug gaps to 60 thousandths per decal and manual. Still have plugs that don't fire even outside the combustion chamber. Have closed plug gaps to 50 thousandths and still have #4 plug not firing regular. I can lean on the dist cap towards the drivers side and the mis gets worse. When I lean on the dist cap to the pass side the spark gets better. I can see when the plug/wire fires using a timing light. This is blowing my mind. Every one I talk to says HEI's are great and trouble free. What am I missing here? Do I still have the plug gaps to wide? Should I close them to 40? Any help would be appreciated.
