Replacing my factory radio/cassette
I want to replace my original factory radio/cassette that is really a p.o.c. Will any aftermarket car stereo work with the power antenna? Is there something additional that I need? Also are face plates available to fit my '86?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanx

Most stereos will have the antenna power wire, they use it to turn on amps too. Wal mart or any other place that sells stereos will have the adapter kit to put the new unit in. Most stereos are some longer than the factory unit and need to stick out about an inch, the adapters will allow this. I kind of liked the factory look so I got a CD player from a later model GM car, just a little modifying and it fit in ok and looks good. These are getting a bit hard to find though.
Pioneer, Eclipse, Jensen, Boss Audio, and Kenwood (and probably others) make units that have the same 1½ DIN frame size to fit the original openings in GM and Chrysler vehicles (over half the vehicles in the U.S. ) with no modifications. The Pioneer DEH-P470H -77DH, and similar models are quite shallow, and fit very easily without protruding beyond the original face depth. 4x45W fills up the cabin pretty well without even a separate amp.
