fuel guage wire

I am rewiring my car big time and I have all the wires def figured out on the tail light harness except one wire. it is pink and I think it is designated letter "H" on the plug. when I put power to this wire and I give it a little bit of time I hear a noise that sounds like it is comming from the fuel tank. is this the fuel leve guage wire??? this is a carbed car and not a fuel injected car so I know for a fact it is not an electric fuel pump power wire.

I believe both the fuel injected and carbureted cars were equipped with electric in-tank pumps, but I'm not positive on this.

Is it possible that the pink lead you are looking at is for the electric pull-down motor that operates the hatch mechanism?

well the car has always had the mech fuel pump on the block and the car never had an electric pull down hatch motor. the only option it had in the back of the car was the remote release but it does't look at all like it might have power that in any way at all.

The pink wire is the wire for the fuel gauge. If the car has an in-tank pump, the wire will be either tan/white or grey.
