Code?

My 85 Berlinetta with a v6 throws a code after about 10 minutes of idling. It does not throw the code if you are driving... ive been to the FAQ and saw the procedure to check codes manually. The only problem is that on my berlinetta, the pins that I am supposed to cross dont exist... is the procedure different for a berlinetta?

ok, I found the wire to jump. When jumped, my fan goes on ? but the SES light does flash. The intro sequence my car flashes is different then the FAQ says. it goes something like this.
flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash-flash pause flash, long pause
instead of
flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause flash, pause, flash-flash, long pause

Also, I'm not sure if the 12 code is being flashed. Does a 12 code mean it wil flash once, pause, then flash twice? or does it flash 12 times? Please advise.
Thanks,
-BRendan

The error codes are two-digit codes. The sequence of the MIL lamp is to flash the first digit, pause briefly, then flash the second digit. There will then be a longer pause, and the code will repeat. Each code display three times, then the next stored code displays.

For example:

FLASH {½ PAUSE} FLASH, FLASH = Code 12

FLASH, FLASH, FLASH {½ PAUSE} FLASH, FLASH, FLASH, FLASH = Code 34

The actual sequence would be:

FLASH {½ PAUSE} FLASH, FLASH {1 SECOND PAUSE} FLASH {½ PAUSE} FLASH, FLASH {1 SECOND PAUSE} FLASH {½ PAUSE} FLASH, FLASH {2 SECOND PAUSE}

That would decode as a "12, 12, 12" The two-second pause after the code display separates the next code display sequence.

if you are really just getting the code 12 that means that your ECM(cars computer) does not remember any trouble codes.

When you put the jumper wire between those connecters and turn the key to the on position it will blink the code 12 a couple times and then it will blink its stored trouble codes... for example if you had a code 34 it would do the following:

blink......blink-blink......blink.....blink-blink.........blink-blink-blink.....blink-blink-blink-blink........blink-blink-blink.....blink-blink-blink-blink.....<over and over again it would repeat that code 34>

hope you understand that... make sure you are waiting for it to show you the actual code and not just the code 12 which it will do when you first put the car in diagnostic mode.
