fuel pump wiring help!
fuel pump wiring help!
ok, i am in dire need of help right now... i have done a motor swap in my 86 firebird, i went from fuel injected 2.8 to carb'd 350, all i need to do is figure out the fuel system... i thought that by hooking the two wires that went to my old oil pressure safety switch together, that when i turned the key it would read oil pressure, and my fuel pump would start, and when i turned it off it would stop, well i hooked up the battery and my fuel pump runs constantly...
i have done searches for help, but i can't find a definitive fix for this problem. how do i get my fuel pump to come on when i turn the key, and off when i turn it off?
i have also read that the fuel pump relay received signals from the ecm and dist. when it used to be fuel injected... if it's not receiving these signals will that also cause me problems?
anyone please help!!!

The reason that the pump runs constantly is that the auxilliary oil pressure switch power source is directly from the battery.
Incidentally, the auxilliary oil pressure switch is NOT a "safety switch" since it will not stop the fuel pump on a loss of oil pressure. That is a common misconception. Here is the circuit:
