85 TA Headlights

I just got an 85 Trans Am, and the headlights are so erratic that I have no idea where to look for the problem. My drivers side headlight doesn't pop up or down on it's own, so I'm assuming the problem lies in the relay on that side? The passenger side headlight pops up, but not every time. Sometimes it comes up halfway and stops. Other times, it comes all the way up but the lights don't come on. Sometimes one headlight is on, but the other isn't. When both headlights come on, the lights usually turn themselves off, whether it's after 10 seconds or an hour of driving. Any suggestions for fixing this, it's driving me nuts.

I suspect that there's some wiring problems going on... I would check out the wiring and clean the connections to the relays, bulbs, grounds, etc. and then go from there. As far as the one headlight not popping up, you might need to replace the headlight motor. See if you can bypass the relay to short power to the motor. If it still doesn't work, then the motor is shot.
