Car: '91 Firebird

Engine: 3.1 V6

Transmission: Auto

Faulty oil pressure switch?

Hi folks, I wonder if you could shed any light on this for me? The Oil pressure guage on my fiance's '91 V6 firebird goes off the scale which I find very hard to believe! At idle it drops very slightly. Would this be a duff oil pressure sensor? Any help much appreciated.
