? For The Windsheild Wiper Gods

Ok,
Hello fellow third gen members. I have a situation here and I am puzzled. When I purchased my vehicle I was told that the washer pump did not work, I was fine by that. I went to the bone yard and picked up a used washer pump( the pump is built into the motor on my car) Well anyway when I replaced it it did not work. Now today we got some rain and I switched on my wipers and the SOB was pumping water. Here is my question? When I switch on the wipers the washer pump is pumping like crazy, even after the last sweep of the blades I get an extra spray of fluid. Can this be fixed???
Thanks

What did you get your washer motor out of when you went to the junkyard and does your car have the pulse or non-pulse wiper system? Also is your car equipped with the rear wiper blade?

Thanks for replying, My system does not have delay, and I pulled the system from an 82 Firebird SE. It is the cover unit and I am confused because it never worked until today and it is spraying too much. When I turn on the wipers it sprays and keeps on spraying after the last pass of the wipers. I am confused

I forgot to add my car has no power options including the rear wipers. It is a stock 4 banging Camaro. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't say for sure that this is your problem but there is a small diode in the connector for the wiper/washer motor. If this diode is bad it will generate unwanted electrical spikes in the system. Will do some more checking. BTW, the washers are interchangable between the two cars.

Thank you, I will put an ohm meter on the diode and check the resistance. Now if I can only remember how to tell what the resistance is according to the color bands, it has been a long time since I took an electronics class. I appreciate all your help.

Now what you said made sense. I checked today, and there is no diode there. So I have another problem now. Why doesn't the washer work with the diode installed?
