HELP...fuse keeps blowing...don't know where to start

One of my fuses keeps blowing in the fuse box. Its the fuse for the power mirors, power door locks, hatch pull down switch on the center counsel, horn, interior lights, and radio. It all seemed to start doing this when i pulled out my tach to fix the oil presure gauge. I would turn on the radio and a 20 minutes later it would blow. I put the radio on a separate fuse thinking that the radio was causing it and this solved the problem for awhile. But now its back. Now i have the gauge working but the fuse keeps blowing. What gives? Its not blowing imediatly..it takes awhile (id say a few days cause i dont drive it regularly) so for the past month or so ive been throwing new 20 amp fuses at it. But now its bugging me seeing as how this is really the one thing wrong with the car right now.

Try pulling the cig lighter and see if it goes away -- that was my problem. Could be a lot of other things, though. If you have a meter capable of measuring 20+ amps, you can pull the fuse and insert the meter in its place to see how much power the circuit's drawing with key on/off, etc...

Oh ok thanks i'll try that next time i get a chance..(im up at the university of connecticut and the car is at home). If that is the problem what should i do to fix it? I do seem to remember that my cigarette lighter doesn't work and it just stopped recently ( i got friends that smoke). Should i pull the cigarette lighter out of the dash and see if there is a loose connection or something? Or should i stop being dumb seeing as how i don't smoke and just throw the damn lighter away? lol

Disconnect the plug at the back of the lighter, more then likely it is the lighter.

On mine, I only had a problem if the heater element was in the socket. I eventually went to Wal-Mart and bought an entire socket/heater element for around $5 -- problem solved.

I didn't realize that it could be such an easy solution. Thanks everyone. I'll keep everyone informed if it helped or not. It may be awhile before i can test it and get back to you seeing as how im up at UCONN and my camaro is 59 miles away in my hometown nice and snug in my moms garage bay (i kicked her car out )
