At 220 Volts Go Higher
At 220 Volt Go High
Hey,
I got this other problem that started 2 weeks ago.
I was using a DC 2 AC converter while the car is parked and running(no radio on) and sanding the paint off the car.
The DC 2 AC converter stated overload, so I looked at the gages in the car and the voltage was at 18 volts. I pulled out my voltmeter and measured the battery (18volts) and the alternator(18volts). I unplugged the positive off battery and it was (13volts) the alternator was 20volts
So I tunrned off car for a few minutes and turned it back on and voltage was normal at 14 volts.
But when The gage temp hits 220 range the car goes to high voltage mode.
So now when I drive the car or its Ideling and temp hits 220 the voltage stays at 18volts.
Fan is on, no lights on in dash I am totally stumped.
It only happens when temp hits 220
I just changed Therm and Drained ANTIfreeze.
Still get the same results

I dont think you should sand a car when you have the battery hooked up or have the car running. Its not safe to not be in the car for long periods of time while its running. You're also wasting gas.
Your alternator is going bad, you need a new one. The regulator inside the alternator is making the voltage go crazy. The alternator is probably on the edge of failing. The extra engine bay heat changes the electronics in the alternator. Try putting in a new alternator. Even with extra heat, the alternator should keep putting out 14V. (I had the former 305 V8 at 260+ degrees before when the thermostat went out.)
Why are you letting your car get overheated? That excessive heat is only causing damage to your engine. Your car shouldn't be getting that hot unless your not driving it anywhere.

The other alternator was doing the same thing, this is a new one, 3 weeks old from AutoZone.
I use a 750watt converter cause I dont have electricity to work in my parking area and I'm doing the body work myself. I go around the corner in an abondon lot in the drive way and strip and prime my car. My luxury apts threaten to evict me If I continue to work on my car in da parkin lot.
I am almost finished when this all happen.
I got the front/rear bumper and GFX to finish but no electricity.
so now my radio don't work and car looks a mess.
My lights just started to die as I was driving home car jumps to 18volts as I push the pedal.
I think something is cooking inside the car.

Your alternator is gone. It doesn't matter how old they are, they can go bad whenever. The ac converter and extra heat might have been too hard on it.
try to find the receipt, take it back, and then try to get a 140A alternator or a better alternator. Don't try to run your car too much until you get the normal 14V back.
Do you have any electrical outlets closeby in this lot? Can you run an extension cord?
