I went to pull the black "cover" off the guages today (the trim thats around the steering wheel) and as soon as i pulled it off the car started making the noise as if i stuck the key in the ignition....that beeeeeeeeep sound. Why is it doing that and how do I stop it?

You had to have removed something else besides that plastic trim piece. You didn't try removing anything on the column itself did you? Another question is why didn't you disconnect the battery first?

nope...i just removed the top dashpad...thinking that needed to be removed to get to the guages and plus it was cracked and looks like crap...so im gunna get a new 1. Then i moved down to the trim..and as soon as i pulled it out a bit..the noise started

i didnt unplug the battery because im a retard

and now...just for future ref...the headlight switch...how do i get the black trim past that?...does the **** unscrew from the rod?

You have to remove the headlight switch. To remove it, there is a little lever (button) on the bottom of the switch assembly behind the dash that you push in and the **** comes out.

It is normal for the tach to stop somewhere on the gage when the engine is shut off and then move to the operating range when the car starts. You might want to check to see if the white wire is connected to the ignition coil in the engine compartment. That is where the signal comes from for the gage.
