Ticking Noise?? wtf?
Ticking Noise?? wtf?
as you may of seen in my posts that i have been submitting in the last few days, i just installed a 1" 4 hole carb spacer. now on my test drive today i noticed right on start up a ticking noise.. it would be a slower one at lower rpm's, like at rest, but once you got on the gas, it would be a really fast pace ticking noise.. please anyone with any ideas please respond..
thanks guys

The only ticking noises I've ever had were exhaust leaks at the y-pipe or headers. Look where you think something has been done to the car, or where something should be replaced. An intake leak wouldn't make a ticking, but could make your car run badly and stall, so I wouldn't think it's related to the spacer.
Did the ticking noise start after you put the spacer in?
There have been cases of small objects (washers, clips etc)
falling down the intake and winding up on top of a piston.
This would cause a pretty good tick in most cases.
To rectify, lower the affected piston to the bottom and fish
around with a magnet through the spark plug hole.
Left unattended it will destroy a piston in short order.

well the ticking noise at like really slow starting off speed, will be pretty evident and more of a slower paced one, but after you get going it will be a farily high paced ticking noise, specially after you let go of the trottle after having it half down or a WOT... if there is somethin that droped in, i would have to get a magnet and put it in the spark plug holes? and if it was a exhaust leak, how could i tell it was one of those? something i should look for? would this affect proformace at all? hehe this is really bothering me now and want to get this fixed up bad, so any any advice would be awesome
thanks again
thanks again
I would say to check for any exhaust leaks by putting your hand down around the exhaust ports on the block and feeling for hot gasses.
I usually do this after the car has sat over night so it is stone cold, and no heat will be radiating from the manifolds / headers to give a false indication. It also helps to keep me from burning the pi$$ out of myself
Just remember, you have a limited amount of time to do this cause the exhaust tends to heat up pretty quickly.
Just my .02

this wouldn't be related to the fact that i had to put the carb spacer on upside down to make it fit. where the rough part of the spacer is facing up towards the carb, and the smooth part is against the manifold? the holes still line up in everything..
what about if the gasket at my intake mainifold wasn't set proper? becuase i had it off when i put the spacer on the carb.. would this contribute to that ticking noise at all? just doesn't make sense how this noise could all of a sudden appear as soon as i put the spacer on.. err!
hehe again any opinions welcomed guys
hehe again any opinions welcomed guys yea i got a appointment in a few days to have her looked at.. but if any of you know if the gasket between the carb and the mainfold would cause this please respond back. i'd rather fix the problem my self instead of a shop..
No, the gaskets you replaced will not cause the ticking sound.
