Few questions

I think i have a mess on my hands!!Looks like the guy i purchased my 91 and 89 RS's from has gone into the colomns of both and badly into the harness of the 91.My airbag and horn wires are ripped into down in the 91's harness and i found colomn parts in the console where he replaced the key switch. The switch is gone from the 89's column and a few things are left loose in it but the harness seems untouched. The 91 has had an alarm sys installed in it and there are atleast 10 bosch relays running through its wires and they went into the harness in the normal places. Now to the questions.

How can i tell what resistor is needed to bypass vats??

Will the dash harness from the 89 work in the 91??The 91 is a L03 t-5 and 89 is a L03 auto.

Will the computer from the 89 work in the 91 just enough to start it??

Will a column from a 89 V-6 work in place of the 91's??

What percentage resister do i need to bypass vats??

That's all i can think of right now.I dont intend to use the airbag right now so keep that in mind when answering the above questions.

resistor is trial and error to find right one. the values for the 15 codes are listed all over the board, just do a search.
Some of the wiring will work.
computer will not work.
Steering column should fit.
Resistor should be within a 10% variance of the original value.

What wattage resister do i need??I looked around the radio shack website and they have listings for 1/4w,1/2w,1w,2w,and i think 5w.Plus all they seem to show is 5% resistors. Will these be sufficiant??

Wattage won't matter. 1/4 w is fine. 5% tollerance is fine too.

Welp tryed the local radio shack and they dont have the resistors needed for some odd reason.Showed them the list of 15 and they just nope dont have them without even looking.I did however change the column and remove all that radioshack special alarm system and its 10+relays.The column fit but there is one plugin diff between the 2.Its one of the long slim ones,10 cavity i think.Im unsure atm what it goes to.It had 2 or 3 less wires than the 91's plus the plugin from the 89 is white compared to the 91's being black.I'll see if i can do some comparing and repinning tomorrow.I'll keep you updated. Thanks

I just rememed something!!When doing the resistor swaping how do i do it??Put one in line then turn key and try to start??Turn key on then insert??Do i have to turn off the key switch between chip changes??Do i have to reset ecm between changes??Do i have to wait a certain time between trys??Thanks

Btw--anyone know of another source besides radio shack to get resistors??

Measure the resistance of the pellet in the key. Suppose it is 14.7 k ohms. Get the closest standard resistor value which would be 15K and attach to the small wires under the column at the electrical connector.

That is what you would do if you knew the value required. What you need to do is get the closest standard value to each of the 15 values listed for VATS. If you use the wrong one, I think it's 4 or 5 minutes before you can try again.

find a local electronics supply place. Failing that, I buy stuff from www.digikey.com all the time. Fast shipping and cheap.
