91-92 Hatch Pull Down Question
Picked up a 91-92 Plastic Style Hatch Pull down out of a 1991 T/A at the junkyard. When I hooked it to power it went to the full up position Problem is i cant figure out how to make it go back down.Usually i just push the button in the latch slot but it doesnt do anything.Anyone know how to remedy this?I have only run across this problem once before with a similar 91-92 pulldown unit

if i remember correctly there's a little switch looking thing somewhere near the bottom that needs to be flipped. i had this problem with mine too. if i can find the old motor i'll let you know exactly where it is. also, if you haven't rewired it yet, watch out, there's a black wire that for some reason is a power wire, i accidentally grounded that and blew up way too many fuses trying to figure out why, haha.

Here is a breakdown picture of the hatch motor assembly. The switch that you have questions about is the item numbered #17 and is circled on the left side of the picture.

One thing I noticed between the 91-92 style was the metal loop that's on the hatch itself is actually thinner. I tested one out of a 91 and it won't lock with the older loop. Hope that helps, I'll be doing the same thing to my 89.

Yes that is a reversing switch, push down on it and the motor goes down. Release it and the motor goes up. One thing that you might want to look at is the motor mount housing. Mine was cracked and broken around the screw attachment points. It would pull the hatch down to a certain degree but not all the way and almost burned up the motor. Another thing to look at is just replacing that switch.
