installing new tail light socket. help please
ok i never done this before. my old socket for my tail light is broke inside of it. i bought a new one for 3 bucks. how do you wire it up and how hard is it. and pic or info will be great
read the sticky threads above in the electronics forum. They are called
Tech: How to properly wire your electronics (Part 1-3).
Just do one wire at a time so you dont get them mixed up.
Then again, i dont remember what the sockets looked like, so if the above stickies dont help and you get no response from other thirdgen.org members, i'll try to take a look at my sockets for the taillights.
By the way, which taillight and which socket?

it is the passanger side tail light right next to the center piece that has the firebird on the back of the car. i have the replacement socket but i guess i have to spit the wire and rewire it somehow.

swapping out the socket should be straight forward. heres what you will need
Solder
Soldering iron
heat shink tubing
wire cutters
wire stripers
heat gun
start by Cuting the old socket out using wire cutters.
Strip off about a half inch of each wire's insulation on both the car's wires and your socket's wires.
twist the ends of each.
slip enough of the heat shrink tubing over the existing wire, enough to cover the bare wires and such
try and twist the wires of the same color together.
solder that connection and pull the heat shrink tube over the solder
heat the tubing usin the heat gun until it shrinks tight around the wires.
repeat this for each wire

Just use a lighter on the heat shrink, its 10X easier. The wires should be color coded as well, its hard to screw this up.
