3rd brake light in 89 bird

There has been lots of forum talk about the 3rd brake lights mounted behind the glass at the top, but I have mine in the spoiler, and i jsut failed inspection because it doesn't light. Both of the blubs look ok. What im wondering is where does the light get it's signal/power? The only thing i can think of is the contact pad to the left of the trunk pulldown, is that it?

Theres where they get thier power from on my camaros. Here inspection is weird. If your third brake light doesnt work but has bulbs in it you fail inspection.Pull the bulbs out of it and it passes inspection.Weird huh??

Just like the hood law here. The law states if you have a hood on the car then the hood hinges must work and be connected properly.Me having a lift off 4 inch cowl(too high to legal anyway) i dont have or use hood hinges so thats a no go.Removed the hood and went and got an inspection sticker!!

Yes, check the wiring on that contact pad, make sure the connectors inside the trim panel are hooked up properly. Also make sure that the contact pad is seating properly.
