alt not charging

ok i have one for you smart guys here. i have built a custom jeep and am running a TPI injection off an 87 camaro. it was a nightmare to wire into my rig but it runs killer and the power is sooo sweet.
the problem i am having it that i am running a police package delco alternator on the front. it has the plug with the 3 wires coming out of it and the single red wire off the main body.
i think i know what each wire does but i can't seem to get them hooked up right. i thought i had charging but found out when the jeep died on the rock pile behind the shop.
any good diagrams or ideas for me? the rest of the wiring harness is from painless (they need to change their name) and has no provisions for the alt or info in the book. i have several chevy swap books but no info on this problem.
thanks for any help. and i can try and provide more info if needed.
sully
