no power to starter

bought the car with no engine, had a 305, not sure if it was carb or efi. lots of stuff looks throttle body. The car is an 84 z28.

got the engine in tonight, everything hooked up ready to run, tested everything (even the blower motor, which wasn't working on high, got that fixed) went to start it for a drive and there was no power to the starter. I should have checked the ignition and start wires with a test light BEFORE the motor was in but didn't think of it.

pulled the start wire from the starter and hooked it to a test light. NOTHING. checked the ignition wire that goes to the hot on the distributor. test light came on with the ignition to the "on" position and switched to the "start" postion.

looked for grounds from thewiring harness to the firewall and couldn't find any, found 2 different black wires that were cut so i grounded them to the firewall, but still nothing.

Is there a start solinoid/fuse anywere? or a fusible link maybe? ANY ideas (about to use a push button!!!)
