bah help.

ok i know this is simple searched for about two hours here and elsewhere can't find my answer.

altanator harness question.
key on alt has batt voltage at main battery wire and at the thick red wire in the three wire connector. this is normal i know; my question is where do the other two small wires from the alt harness go. my alt is not getting the signal to charge. and i'm guessing one of these last two wires is the culprit just don't know where they go.

1987 pontiac gta.
Keyoff
Lug: 12v
s: 12v
f: 0v
l: 0v

Keyon
Lug: 12v
s: 12v
f: 12v
l: 0v

where does the wire marked L go? it has to be my problem

okay, altanator - battery feed wire when disconnected from battery shows good charging voltage. but when connected to battery drops down to 11.94-12.2? can the battery just not be accepting a charge for some reason?

looks like i'm going dry cell on the next battery.
shorted internally (plates touching) this actually kept my batttery from charging. i pull hot lead from alt to battery and test it 16-17 volts reconnect to battery 11.97-12.3 you figure it out.

The shorted cell battery is loading the alternator so that it cannot produce more than the indicated voltage. Dry cell? You mean a gel cell?

I'd go to Farm & Barn and get one of thier batteries. They private label the Johnson Control batteries, which are good quality. Since they sell J/C batteries, they also sell "Optima" batteries (also Johnson Controls).
