Something is drainging my battery every night...how do i find what it is
Well my car has been sitting for 4 months and i finally got a new tranny. the battery was basically dead. anyways, i bought a brand new one, and 2 nights in a row it died overnight. when i started up the car (jump start) it went right to about 14-15 on the voltmeter. let it run for 5 minutes to warm up, drove it for 5 minutes. let it sit for a little while, came back out and same thing, 14-15 volts. but then when i wake up and open the door up the inside light wont even come on. does it sound like something is drainging it? if so, it must be from sitting, and is there any way to find out? thanks a lot.

If it was deep cycled and it's not a deep cycle battery, it may just be a bad battery. First thing to do is check the current draw with the car off. Or pull the battery out and have it tested...

sears tested it and it came out okay. i think i might know what it is. the light under my hood was not working before, so my friend replaced it while we were letting the car warm up, its insanely bright, its a headlight bulb. anyhow, i was checking today, and it seems like its staying on, im gonna have to check at night though. since i got the car, that light never worked anyways, so that very well might be it. when is it supposed to turn on, cause i barely cracked open the hood to look in and it was on. when its dark out i should be able to tell under the car. and if i cant, ill disconnect it anyway, and see if the battery is still good tomorrow like in the afternoon.

I had a similar problem once before. I found that it was my hatch pull down motor. I rebuilt the entire assembly shortly after that, and the problem disappeared.
might want to check that if you have one.

im not sure how the hatch pulldown could have to do with it. i might do one of those parasitic test thingies if it turns out not to be that light. oddly enough i connected the jumped to it just a little while ago and nothing happened. it says you are supposed to let the jumper charge 8 hours before you use it, and it had only been a couple. but the charged light turned on when it was plugged in, so i dont know. ill try again in a couple hours.

ok i checked under the car while it was running, and the light under the hood stayed on...disconnected it. that should be the end of this.
