MSD problems with heat...
I have a camaro with a 383 nitrous motor in it. It is fired by a msd 6a box and a 3 step retard attached to it, which is triggered by a pro billet distributor. I just finished adding the 3 stage retard and it fires and runs fine until you get into traffic, and somehting gets hot and shuts off leaving me stranded. It cools for about 7 minutes and fires right back up. When I am cruising it is fine. Has anybody had this happen before? Everything is under the hood and it was like 70 out today, but I can't remember this happening ever before.
Where should I start looking? Distributor? Box? Retard?
Thanks!

I had this same problem with my 6AL box. It would heat up and the car would just shut off. I would have to wait a few minutes to start it. I went through hell and high water with MSD but they finally got sick of me complaining about it and they replaced it for free.
They had me return it to them so they could do a field test on it. well, the test showed no problems and they sent it back. I replaced the coil, pick up, and wires and sure as ****, it happened agian. To make a long story short, what was happening was that when MSD did there field test, which basically is bench running the box at like 8K PRM for 24 hours, they had the box sitting in a nice cool room and the box never got hot. After about 5 months of dealing with this, I finally snapped at MSD and they sent me a brand new one free of charge. They orignally sent me a free replacement ign module for the pro billet dizzy I got(8366) but it didnt work.
MSD has a very good tech forum and I promise that an MSD tech will answer your question
