New Project

Let me start off by saying that I have absolutely no electrical skills what so ever.

I picked up a nice cheap set of firebird tail lights a while back with the intentions of re-selling them. Then I started to think about making a wall mounted light out of them.(I had seen late model corvette style lights.) So I started thinking out it for a while and decided that I am going to get a lock and key for it to turn it on/off. How would I go about doing this? Should I get an adapter so I can plug it into the wall? Or should I use something like a 9volt battery as the power source? I also have the lights and the wires, which are cut just after they go inside the trunk area.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!

Ryan

Does anyone know how many volts the tail lights run off of when the brakes are not on? and when they are on? I'm trying to decide between a 9volt and 12volt battery.

its 12volts when the brakes are on and off... its just a dual filament bulb... so when its just tails.. only 1 is lit... when its both tails and brakes.. both are lit..... your best bet would be to pick up an old computer power supply... and use that.. since they turn the AC from your house to 12 volt DC..

radio shark sells a box that converts ac to 12v dc too.auto zone sells a universal key switch(ign switch that would work). you'd figure out if you want the brakes or just the running lights on and wire it accordingly
