Gauge Help...PLEASE LOOK!!!

Well Heres some backround info. I have a 86 Iroc that had a 305 TPI in it. I switched it over to a carbed 350 last year. I rewired the fuel pump to a relay, and bypassed the TPI harness. Well ya know how when ya start any car, the gauges peak? Well mine did that like normal, but my Gas gauge stayed that way. Well I diagnoised it NOT to be the sender. So I started taking apart the dash to remove the gauge panel, as well as find the wire that goes to the fuel gauge. (I removed the rest of the TPI harness today). Well I put everything back togther to notice that my temp, volt, and oil gauges now move dirastically with my blinkers. They work normal when the blinkers are not on, but when they are the gauges more alot. I looked at some of the schmatics for it, and the TPI engine managment harness is not tied into the gauge wiring or the turn signal wiring what so ever. IDK whats wrong. The battery recently died, my old man is saying its possible that the blinkers are starving for so much power, its taking it away from the gauges. any info would help

HELP PLEASEEE

I'd say somehow the gauges are getting a ground circuit through the turn signals, and when the signals come on they are losing the ground. May have something to do with the gas gauge too. Hard to pinpoint the problem but I'd guess you need a ground wire hooked up. Several grounding points on the back of the engine heads, take a close look back there. This is one of those problems that can take days to figure out.

I agree with Tom it sounds like you have a ground problem. The 14-18ga ground wire that comes off the battery negative cable has been the culprit in many GM cars that have had the same problem you are,in my own experience. Now with the changes you've made it maybe something else but it's something to look at.If you haven't already.

I only removed 2 grounds, but that was from the TPI harness. I will hook them back up and ground them today, I will also check the wire comming off of the Neg. battery cable. Ive had problems with that in the past corroding, but I Will check that out. any more suggestions?

Okay. Heres what I have today. Its really hard working without schematics but I found a wire that was chopped. Its black with a purple strip. I thought it was ground. So i grounded it to blow a fuse. The 10 amp gauge fuse. Its hot when switched. It comes from the pass. fender and ran all to the driver side. any clue?
