rear hatch pull down motor

Hi all,

I need some help troubleshooting my rear hatch pull down motor. I have it installed. I am getting power to the unit. It did nothing when I first put it in until I touched the motor housing. When I did this the unit moved upwards until it stopped with a click. When I drop the hatch it does nothing now. The motor no longer makes any noise. I made the mistake of taking off the motor cover and the little brushes came out. I corrected this and put the unit back together. I still did not get a response from the unit. When I first plugged everything in and I hooked up a small black wire for ground I could hear the relay clicking several times. It does not do it now. I swapped in a second relay but got nothing from it either. The previous owner of the unit (I am swapping out my bad one) swears it worked when he pulled it. Is there something I may be missing? Can some give me an idea on how to go about troubleshooting the unit? how do you check the reverse switch?

Thx,

Nevada

After putting the brushes back did you verify they are correctly installed

nope

i got it installed but nothing happened as before. when i went out about an hour later i found that the motor was very hot. i pulled the assembly and took it all apart so i can replace the vylon guides and the motor. unless you guys think the motor is repairable? on the reverse switch there is a lever. is this a manual reverse lever? can this switch be tested and if so how?

thx again!
