Minimum orginal wiring...

Ok guys...been awhile since I posted. My cars drivetrain has just about given up the ghost. I just picked up a 99 camaro. Fairly worked...and Im getting ready to swap her in. Now I know the wiring has been covered time and time again...but I havent really seen much about my particular question.

Im going to get rid of my factory gauges. Nothing wrong with them...its just a matter of preference. My question is...since the LS1 harness is more or less self contained, and Im using aftermarket gauges...what is the minimum amount of original wiring that I have to leave in the car.

I know the basics i think. Light circuits, radio, A/C/heater, horn...etc. But everything else can go correct? All original engine harness, ECM, all the relays for MAF and fuel pump (using ls1 fuel tank also). Let me know... Ive been searching a lot since the search button works again... So Ive been through a lot of threads. Im hoping I just missed one that you all can help me out with Thanks in advance.

The best answer I can give you is to remove the engine harness and ECM, then remove the dash and get rid of the wiring that ran from the ECM to the gauges. There wil be a lot of wires for the gauge lights that will have to stay so you can tap into them for our new gauges. I did this when I swpapped my ECM for a FAST ECM. I also ditched my stock cluster, airbag, VATS, and anything else that was connected to the ECM. Its best to remove the dash so you can see where the wires go and stuff. I left the fuses in the fuse block eventhough they are not needed. There a good place to store your spares now. Your just gonna have to start the project and see where ti takes you. Its gonna come down to your personal preferance on what you wanna keep and what stays.

Thanks for the reply. Thats about what I was thinking... Pretty much figured the project would take on its own form while Im doing the wiring. I havent looked at the ls1 wiring yet...but I think they have their own "power centers" correct? With all the fuses for running the drivetrain. Is this what allows you to not use most of the fuses in the stock fuse panel?? Im picking up the 99 tomorrow. Its supposed to be crappy weather, so who knows when Ill get to really take a good look. Cant wait to start tearing into this thing...
