Alternator burning fusable link 14?

ever since i removed the driver side valve cover and i forgot to disconnect the battery i grounded the the alternator red cable from behind the alternator i blew the fusable link and i replaced it with a 35 fuse link but it keeps blewing it out in less then a second. theres a short but i dont know where its coming from. can anyone lead me to this easy fix i hope.

when you say 35 are you saying that it is a 35 amp fuse link, if so that is not large enough to run for the alt, the stock alt will put out around 100 amps. You may also have an alt that is shorted internally

^ yep a 35 amp fuse will blow as soon as the alternator startes charging. The wiring on my '86 was chopped all the crap and the wire from the battery to the alternator broke( it had a wire connector in there). I did the same with the 35 amp fuse and it blew in n time. Then I thought, the alternator is close to 100 amps so the fuse isnt gonna do anything. I just put a new wire connector in there and its been fine. Not the best thing to do but it works .

thanks guys. ill run to autozone and pick up a 14 gauge fusible link. this was killing me. i hate working on something when i dont have all the answers. ill try tomorrow. Thanks Martin

installed the 14 gauge fusible link. and works fine so far. after all i did it i just had the wrong fusible link... Thanks for the help. Martin
