Distributor Cap and Rotor Question.

Hi all.

I have the Remote Coil style Computer controlled HEI Distributor.

Problem is it of the Procomp brand and I have had to get an AC delco Rotor and Cap to fit it.

When the old cap and rotor came out I noticed that the Centre rod had not been touching the Rotor, and I'm worried that this may be because of a poor design in the distributor and I think the new parts may either be just holding on or doing the same. I'm wondering if someone could give me a list of what symptoms to expect if this is the case.

What makes you say that it wasn't touching?

When I took out the original procomp Rotor and Cap, there were arcing marks on the Rotor. Once I installed the GM, AC Delco cap and rotor I noticed the rotor sit's a fraction lower. I have not yet taken off the new Cap to see if there are arcing marks.

BUT: The Engine had a miss at idle and a surging type feeling at 2000 RPM's. Once I instilled the new Cap and rotor it was still there if not a bit worse at 2000 RMPs. The only thing changing the Cap and rotor did fix is it doesn't Break up at high revs anymore. I'm sorta hoping that if the cap and rotor weren't touching it would be at high revs it would show up, not at lower revs.
