Rear hatch on 89 GTA won't shut

I received an 1989 GTA as a birthday present today. Rear hatch latch has electric motor and we opened it fine but the hatch latch is in retracted position and won't let us latch the hatch down. Is there a reset or something I need to check?

Thanks

John

What he's trying to describe is how to re-set the pull-down motor. You can also just use your finger to do it. There is a small black switch just in front of the latch. Press that switch and the motor should start the up-cycle. If this doesn't work, then remove the four large plastic screws and remove the rear hatch trim panel. Then un-plug the red with white stripe wire from the blue wire. You should have +12v at the red/white stripe wire. If there is no power to it, then check the fuse. It is a 15 amp fuse. On Camaro it is in the #3 slot (third column from the left, top row). On Firebird it is a separate inline fuse adjacent to the fuse block. If all this hasn't resolved the problem post again and I'll provide further help.

Thanks

I found the switch and that took care of the problem!
