Big Ignition Problem!!!!
Hey guys i am haveing a very unusual problem, when i turn the car to acc it will start to crank. I just put in a new ignition switch and it did not solve this problem, the only way i can start the car is splice in a switch to the neutral saftey switch wire in the center consol, off postion no crank and on postion it will crank this is really starting to confuse the hell out of me luckaly the car is not on the road yet. Please help i can take pictures or answer any qustions that you have, the vehicle is a 1986 z28 camaro that was carbed and i switched to a old school setup, 350 with a demon carb and a msd billet distributer, this problem only started occuring this past week, i have had the new motor in the car since last august and this carb setup since december with no problems. thanks in advance!!!!
First off, any luck on this? (I don't want to spend a lot of time pouring over schematic for possible causes if you've already found the problem - I'm lazy that way.)
Second, you wrote "when i turn the car to acc it will start to crank." The "ACC" position is when the key cylinder is turned counter-clockwise past the "OFF" position. If that's what you meant, you have something seriously wrong. If by "ACC position you actually meant "RUN" position (first stop clockwise from "OFF") that would be an entirely different matter.

Axle/Gears: They are round, I know that much
I agree with Vader, plus check your purple wire from your ignition switch out, if it is getting power in the "RUN" position you may have a short to power in your ignition circuit. Try checking the starter enabler relay for welded contacts (don't know if your model year has one).
When you say ignition switch do you mean where the key goes in or the thing a little lower on the column that has a metal rod that is pulled by the tumbler when the key is turned? Turning the key causes a rod to be pulled up causing contact and eletrical flow to the different circuits, if the rod is bent, contacts built up corrosion that is causing a short, or if the switch itself has moved you will get the car cranking when it shouldn't.
BTW, does it start up and allow the starter to disengage or does it keep cranking?
