MSD 6A please look and help
hello everyone.... this weekend i put in my car ( 89 Trans Am GTA) new plugs (ngk) and new wires (taylor racing) and an MSD 6A along with cap-rotor and coil. now after all this my car runs a lil hesitant i feel, from usually about 600 to 1500 rpm then it takes off. also my tachometer goes to zero when i hit the gas but in the manual for the msd it says that is normal so is there an adapter or do i have to live with this for ever..... any reason on y it would be hesitant after all these, and any suggestions on anything else for the electrical system, maybe a grounding kit they have out or something.... please help....
o and also when i was riding after all thesae were put on, the car had a huge backfire..... and shut off.... and it wouldnt start up right away again. but that is a normal problem. if the car is running and i shut it off it wont start back up again it will just turn and turn, but wont start up... and takes on that?

My msd box doesn't do that. I bet you have something wired wrong.

double check that you have all the spark plug wires going to the correct cylinders and that they are on tight. Also, is there any chance that you accidentally turned the distrubutor and screwed up your timing when replacing the cap and rotor? As for the tough restarts, it sounds like this was a pre-existing problem. If it's hard to start when the engine is hot, that's a sign that your starter is on its way out.
WELL THE CAP IS PRETTY EASY TO PUT ON IT ONLY HAS 2 SCREWS SO IT WOULD BE HARD TO SPIN IT 180 DEGREES AND PUT IT ON WRONG, THO I WILL CHECK BECAUSE IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE AND IS THERE A DIAGRAM THAT SHOWS ME WHAT PLUG GOES WITH WHAT WIRE, AND I APPRECIATTE IT THANKU.... AND THE STARTER TURNS BUT THE CAR DOES WANNA KICK OVER....

wow, quit the screaming. It would be a good idea to check what jeremyNYR said.

I didn't mean that the cap might be mounted backwards. If the hold-down for the distributor isn't tight, it might have spun slightly in one direction or the other which would disrupt your timing. If you have a service manual, it'll have a diagram labeling which cylinder each wire goes to off of the cap. Be very careful identifying them so you don't shift each wire one to the right or left of where it's supposed to be on the distributor cap.
And if your car starts up the first time when it's cold, and will crank but not start when it's warm... that's the condition I was talking about where it means your starter is wearing out and needs to be replaced. A warm start is more stressful on a starter than a cold start, so if it's wearing out you'll notice problems on warm starts first.
