Was doing some sodering/heat shrinking on a previous project and accidentally dropped a wire onto another one (along the same circuit) and I heard a pop. My gauge lights, HVAC light, and trans indicator lights went out. Fuses are all good. I did a search and the best I can figure is maybe the dimmer control module, but I only found Firebird post and I have a 91 RS. I looked for the module anyways and had no luck finding it. If anyone can point me in the right direction, that would be great.

 

you dont have a dimmer module that is a pontiac only item i believe. chances are you blew a fuse. the only way to be sure you dont have a blown fuse is to ohm them out. when i had this problem in my firebird i blew the tail, crank and acc fuses.

 

I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by "ohm them out". I checked all of the fuses (under the steering column) and none of them were blown. Are there other fuses anywhere else or is there something I have yet to check with those fuses? A friend mentioned something along the lines of using a voltmeter to check the solenoids or something like that. Another friend recommended looking for one of 2500 fuseable links. I would much rather not have to do that if I can help it.

 

Bro, the only way to tell if a fuse is really gone is to put an electrical tester on the 2 prongs using the ohm setting and see it the fuse is still acting as one. You may have just burnt out the bulbs?

 

yeah you take a multimeter and set it to the ohms scale(resistance) take the 2 leads of the multimeter and touch one to each of the prongs on the fuse. you should get a reading if its good. it it says 1 or out of limit or something that may indicate infinity you have a bad fuse.

 

It worked! Had blown a fuse and it didn't look like it was blown. It was the fuse right above INST LPS or something along those lines. Thanks a ton guys.
