magcial hatch release problems

So this is kinda weird but I opend my door and my hatched opens right. Well obiviosly enough its somehow crossed wires with the interior lights. But I haven't the slightest clue were to start, I haven't found any fuses blown for it either.

Also, the motor freaks out for a good bit but I can get the hatch to close after messing with it a little, (the switch to get it to go down). This is were it gets tricky though. After I manage to get the hatch close I have to hurry to jump in the car and shut the door before the hatch goes up which takes about 6-8 seconds.

While in the car I can turn the interior lights off and on and here the hatch release click to open the hatch, and of course the hatch button release still works.

So im wondering if anyone has any great ideas for me on were to start looking.

thanks

It sounds as if you'll need to remove the trim panel along the door sill, the panel beside hte hood release, center console and maybe the seats to pull up the carpeting. What you're looking for is someone running a jumper wire from the tan with white stripe wire that connects to the ground location at the parking brake. I suspect someone has run a jumper from that wire to the door pin switch. Both the hatch release switch and the door switch operate by turning on the component (whether light or popping the trunk) by grounding out. Do yourself a favor and buy a HELMS manual for your year and model of F-Body at www.helminc.com. It has the entire wiring for your car as well as the component locations shown so you can sort out the problem. SOmehow that tonneau switch is grounding out when the door is opened.

You know ..I had the motorized crap and didnt want to screw with it so I ripped apart all the motor stuff leaving me with just the bracket that bolts to the body and the latch itself.I bolted up the bracket and slid the latch into the grooves where it normally sat...closed the hatch....crawled into the back seat and marked the area of the latch on the bracket ..had it welded...Sorry I have no more problems to deal with...Only thing I have to do is to rewire the hatch light. When I see a bad design ...I try to re-engineer

I would start looking for the problem back by the hatch latch behind the plastic panel. What year is your car? If you need a wiring diagram for the interior lights and hatch release letme know. Also does your car have a aftermarket keyless entry or alarm? Mike

o well

Well... I was messing with my stereo today and was cussing at the hatch release of course. I allready had fixed it by messing with door so that my interior lights don't come on when they're open anymore allthough the hatch would still pop if you manually switched on the lights. Then I was in the back messing with some stereo stuff I just been needing to look at (was getting measurements for a possible sub box.) and then I closed the hatch.

Well, someone came by later and had some ideas to fix my little magic trick and we started by trying the interior lights and the wonderful little thing didn't pop open. Now... I really have no idea why it started and even less as to why it stopped doing this magic trick and me and my buddy both did a little dance. So i figure if its not broke, don't fix it. Allthough when it comes back up, which im sure it will... I'll probably start back from this post so thanks now, and thanks in advance.

All in all though.. I really need to just rip that car apart and rewire everything, then get the interior re-done (ceiling starting to fall and what not) By the way... I think this car is my elenore... in the past year i've had it, i've replaced belts, tension pulley, neutral saftey switch, cylinder lock & key, batteries, waterpump, altenator, oxygen sensor, and as of late a fender, hood, and front end peices... but dammit, its viper red now and its just so damn pretty. Hope I can just get it good enough to sale it to some little punk and just stick it to him on the price.
