Speedometer & Gas gauge both quit!

Here's the deal, my car is a 1991 RS.
It originally had 3.1 V6 which I swapped out for a carbed 350.
I used the intank fuel pump with a mallory regulator. Until the fuel pump
died. Then I decided to switch to a mechanical pump. Using the advice from
members on thirdgen, all went smoothly. Removed the dead pump from
tank and put a feed hose in its place. Ran new lines for the mechanical pump.
Removed fuel pump fuse from the front of the engine bay. Engine fired right
up with plenty of fuel flow. However, now the gas gauge does not work nor
the speedometer. One small note I left out, when reinstalling the tank.
On the Sender assembly (Cap on tank holding electrical pump), I found
that while reinstalling it a purple sensor wire that looked to be grounded
on one of the tubes came loose. I used JB weld to reconnect it. Could this
be my problem. I tend to create my own headaches most of the time.
Any theories would greatly help.
