Temp Guage

My Temp Guage didnt seem to work. It would climb to be very hot.... then plumet instantly. My car recently overheated really bad and im just about done swapping the head gaskets, but i wanna prevent this.

The Sensor for the guage is on the head between 1 and 3 cyl's isnt it? Or is it in the back of the intake? I'm confused. Anyways, if its the one thats between 1 and 3, I cannot find the little connector that goes on it anywhere. I know what I'm lookin for cause i see it on my friends IROC... but Its no where. Can I manually wire a wire to the guage to know for SURE that the guage is workin good? I'm really really paranoid of it overheatin again heh

If you find the wire going to the gauge turn the key forword but don't start it then touch another key to the wire to ground it. The gauge should go all the way to hot if the gauge is good. That means it's the sender. Hope this helps.
