Ok the fuseable link that runs from my alternator to my battery I think is bad. It looks like it has been repaired before. Right now the insulation of the wire has melted off and the wire has come disconnected. I troubleshooted most of the car and checked if any of the wires has grounded out going to my starter and they were all OK. I then decided to take some 8 AWG wire and run that from the alternator to the battery instead. It was fine, and when I made the connection from the alternator to the battery, the wire did not melt and did not even get hot. My question is can I buy that 10 AWG stock wire that connects from my alternator to my battery with the fusable link on it or should I just run the 8 AWG. I think I am explaining myself correctly. Some help would really be appreciated so if you guys have any suggestions that would be great.

 

I want to say that there is no fusible link from the alternator to the battery,I looked at the picture and am not sure what it is.I know that the wire that comes from the alternator to the battery has no fusible link in it.

Even if you don't replace the fuse link.. it's a good idea to put some form of fuse protection back inline with anything that is directly connected to the battery.
Electricial fires = bad.

 

Cadman277, I hope you didn't make any bets on your comment because it is a sure bet that you would lose. That item in the picture is what is commonly referred to as a junction block and is located near the radiator on some cars such the 91 RS 305TBI. If you will refer to the picture that deadbird has so kindly supplied in his post, you will notice that the wire leading from the BAT connection on the alternator to that junction block is indeed a fusible link.
