cold starting idle issue, and fuel pump relay code
when i first start my car up in the monring after its been sitting it starts really hard and doesnt like to stay running unless your on the gas playing with it, but once you get driving and get going down teh road and go though a few gears it runs fine....
i had it scanned and it came up with code 54 i believe, it was the one that the fuel pump relay wasnt getting enough signal.... besides the relay what else could be causing this ? oil pressure/fuel pump switch ?
and does anyone have a diagram for the fuel pump circuit ? its a 91 tbi
thanks guys, i really need to get this fixed so it can be more reliable to drive everyday

Check the gray wire that goes from pin "B2" of the ECM to pin "C" of the oil pressure switch and pin "E" of the fuel pump relay. If the wire is good I would suggest checking the oil pressure switch for serviceability.

when you say good, does that mean no breaks or frays in it ?
i took the relay out and the car still starts and runs, so i assume the oil pressure switch is ok... even though my guage hasnt worked since before i can remember
can a junk battery cause this to happen ? because when i turn my key on the volt guage is around 8-9 volts, and when its on it is never constantly charging at 14.4, its either there or down like 11 or in between....
the battery is like 4-5 years old and when i put on my blinkers the volt gauge fluxuates with teh blinker, and also goes down when i step on the brakes when the light comes on... im thinkin i might have ajunk battery and that might be causing the relay to not be getting enough voltage... i also tried switching the relay from the fan to see if that would help and it woulndnt'
the other issue i have seen is that it only happens in the monring for hte most part, if i wait until the afternoon or when the dew has had a change to burn off the ground, it doesnt do it as bad. and it is worse in the rain.

it sounds like several problems.a bad alternator a bad battery and a bad cap or coil.a bad dist. cap can cause hard starting and bad idle with high humidity so can a coil.after it warms up it will run fine.you can also replace your oil pressure sending unit.hope this helps.

well the cap is new... and it was doing it before the cap and still doing it after, the coil did cross my mind, but would it throw a code ?
