Heater fan power wire burning up
I was out replacing the heater core on my car today. Once I got it installed I turned the car on with the heat on full blast to make sure that the new one was working fine when I saw smoke coming out from under the hood. There is a wire harness for a single red wire right over near the blower motor that was so hot that it was burning the insulation right off of the wire, as well as burning up the harness. I checked my service manual and it said that this is the power lead for the blower and that it goes into that relay/resistor module that controls fan speed. It's supposed to have a fuseable link but that evidently didn't blow, and I'm not sure where it's at. I have the harness unplugged right now which means that my blower doesn't work, but I'm not sure what could have caused this. You'd think it would be coincidental that this happened during heater core replacement since that has nothing to do with the blower wiring, but I'm not really sure. Have any of you had this problem or heard of it?

I have never heard of it but I would say pull the moter and see if something jammed it or check to see if it's a dead short. At any rate you'll need a new relay for it now as well.I assume it was on high when it happened.
