Dead short somewhere, help needed.

Just about one month ago, I blew out a 20amp fuse. what does not work now are: power door locks, 12V power point (cig lighter), the power antenna, and the rear hatch power release button.

I have removed the door panels on each side. I did find one chafed wire in the dvr side door, but no bare wires where visible. I have checked all wiring in both doors and can not locate a shorted out wire. I am assuming that its a charfed wire which has taken 20 years to short out, so its a moving part of some kind to cause chafing.

Does anyone have an idea where I might look? Could this be in the engine bay? Doors?

the best way to troubleshoot a short is to disconnect everything hooked up to that fuse and then see if it still blows, that would mean your wiring is bad if it does.otherwise plug everything back in one at a time until it does blow the fuse.first though look for a penny in your cigarette lighter.that causes more blown fuses than anything.hope it helps.

The penny thing, thats very interesting. I left my car open with the T-tops off at a car show and left the car for awhile to check out other cars. It was this time frame that my problem started. I will check now.

Anyway, I probed the fuse spot, its raeds 12.44V. The location is marked ACC 20 amp.

Nope, no penny.

I wonder if it could be a chafed wire in the steering column.
