help this car sucks
OK I have had this problem since I bought the car years ago. at times I will turn the key and nothing happens all lights and gages turn on but no starter I have all ready bypassed the clutch safety switch installed an entire dash wiring and wires going to the starter and a new starter "again". is there possibly a relay going bad or something

I have replaced the ignition swich when I bought the car to remedy this problem but it resurfaced a few months later so the I buypassd it with a push button starter only to have the wire harness die on me. I also am able to jump the starter directly off the battery and it drives fine. Now when it doese it i turn the key i can here the switch under the drivers side kick panel click but nothing happens after that. although all my SES lights and Security light will turn off as normal. so it has confused me as to what can be the problem

There is a way to bypass VATS. Search VATS bypass and have at it.
If that doesn't work, i'm sure you can find somebody that would burn you a chip with the VATS disabled.

Ok, the vats is working ok. I have searched about testing the lock to see if it is the problem. I hooked my multi meter "set on ohms " to the two white wires and I got confusing results. When I turned the key I got nothing until I pushed in and turned back just a little. Then I would get a reading off but I couldn't tell what it was because it was a flash and I couldn't read it. This also happens when I replug it and try to start the car. The car will start if I push in then turn back it just a little slowly. If I don't go slowly and it doesn't start, it will sometimes trigger my vats system to not let the car start. I wait 4 minutes then try again and it will start. So is this my cylinder going bad or am I looking too far into it?
PS: The ignition switch at the base of the column is also new.

it sounds like it could actually be the tumblers inside the lock itself not working right. Do you have a copy of the key that u havent used from a while back? If you do check the grooves on the key to see if they are all in tact. I know with my door lock while not having the vats the fact that a 1/32 of an inch bumb and a rounded tip made the key not work in the door with wiggling the key and turning for five minutes to catch the tumbler.
----------
its only a suggestion, i dont really know the ignition system too well but its worth a shot to try a spare key instead of constantly replacing everything.

my other key doese the same thing so I now know the key can't be the problem. anything else it could be? I have purchased a new cylinder but I want to be sure that it is my problem before I remove my airbag and steering wheel to replace it

sounds like the key not making good contact. IIRC it should show a steady Resistance reading whenever the key is in . Take the resistance reading of the pellet in your key, go to rat shack and get a resistor to splice into the VATS wiring.
