Timing light shows +46 Degrees?! Can't find DST Wire, Little HELP!

Inherited project car, now my project.
1984 Camaro Z28 H.O.

Work previously done on the car 1996, then the car sat for 10 years
Swapped out 5.0L H.O. to 5.7L H.O. L98
New Roller Cams, bigger fuel injectors in 4BRL Carb. "Rochester".
Higher Gear Ratio 5-Speed Trans. upgraded.
High Flow Exhaust.
Engine Balanced on rebuild as well as bored out bigger.
After all that engine is suppose to output close to 400HP.
(Can chirp tires in first 2 gears) Fun Car!

2006
All fluids replaced, all tune-up stuff.
Harmonic Balancer replaced.
Rochester 4BRL Carb. had a complete rebuild.
Runs pretty well now,

PROBLEM
But CAN NOT TIME ENINGE IN ORDER TO PASS CA. SMOG
Timing light shows +46 Degrees. I looked for "DST Wire" to disconnect it, but can't find it. Also I think I am supposed to disconect a Vaccum hose too. Little HELP!
Thanks,

I think it has electronic control on the advance. If there is a canister on the side of the dist pull that hose and plug it. That would be vacuum advance. The DST wire is a bayonet style connection on the firewall more than likely passenger side. It looks like and old school glass fuse holder except that it has a clip you press to relase the two sides from one another. Unplug that and adjust your timing. With the modifications you described it may not work with the F/I if that is what you have, you said the fuel injectors and 4bbl carb were replaced. Because of the mods I gather it is running a carburetor. Good Luck, Chip.

Thanks for the replies, I have more information and tests that I tried. The engine original 4BRL Carb. is still in use and not converted to fuel injection. After writting earlier I can see the confusion.
Anyways, I have the 4-wire harness coming off the Distributor disconnected when I time the engine, and this as expected makes the Engine light come on in the dash. I still get +46 Deg. and engine gets worse when I advance the timing or retard it. It seems pretty happy at +46, except for the rough starts that make it seem too advanced.

Also I do have a broken glass fuse on the passenger side firewall that goes into one of the main wire harnesses.
Last week I replaced the "Harmonic Balancer" thinkning that was spun. Nope it was identical, but I replaced it anyways.
Do you think the CAM being a newer (post 1995) style rollercam makes a difference whawt I time to, or what cyclinder to use?

Little HELP!
Thanks again,
DanManZ28

Have you pulled the driver side valve cover and turned the engine over til the intake valve (2nd valve) on the driver side closes and the piston is at TDC. If you have unhooked the bayonet style coupling on the firewall and set the check engine light on, you have that much right. When you get the #1 cylinder to top dead center after the intake valve has closed, check your timing mark on the damper in relation to the timing tab on the block. I am guessing the timing tab is for a different year engine. Your Chevy dealer should have the right one for your application.
