Electric rear hatch HELP!

I shut my rear hatch tonight and the motor that pulls the window down won't stop running, and doesn't pull the window all the way down. Anyone ever experience this? Is there a sensor that needs cleaning or replacing? Is the motor shot? Never delt with this on my '84 Z/28. It just shut with the wieght of the hatch. I kinda like the electric pull down, but don't know what to do to fix it. As always, any help is appreciated. Daniel U

Hatch pulldown

I've got a 91 Camaro with an electric pulldown setup. It was doing the same thing. You're supposed to hear a click when it bottoms out on the reversing switch. It turned out that the plastic housing cracked from constant abuse. I bought a new housing from Top Down Solutions and stopped the problem. I'm sure he should have one for your year Camaro. Make sure when you install the new housing, that you turn the gear nut 7.5 to 8 turns so that the hatch pull down rod activates the reversing switch to prevent stop the motor. You may also have to some adjustment on hatch to get to seal properly. Lon will provide you with detailed instructions.

If you need any more convincing, I bought the gear nut housing and slides from Lon at TDS. He included instructions as well as white lithium grease for the tracks. The plastic housing was also reinforced with metal to prevent the same from happening farther down the road.

Plus, I still use the TDS ink pen he sent with my order which was like 5 years ago?

Yeah, Lon allready emailed me back! I just have to decide if I want to rebuild mine or replace it with his newer style one and not worry about it for another 20 years. Kinda a pay now or pay later situation I guess. Thanks for all your suggestions and feedback of TDS. Makes my purchase easier to know it's a good company!
