1982 Camaro - 1989 Firebird

My 15 year old son has earned his own money and bought both of these cars-we are stuck on the wiring process.

First I'll tell you where we're at. He bought a Chevrolet 350 motor with old school Rochester 4bl carb. We've put it into the 82 Camaro. We have had great luck finding missing parts on the Firebird and they have matched up perfectly with the camaro (except for the windshield wiper motor). We used all of the Firebird's mounting brackets, water pump, smog pump, alternator, etc. I've also transferred the heat/air conditioning equipment from blower to coils to compressor.

Other than I not working on cars (FORDS) since I was a teen myself this father-son project feels as new to me as it does him and we're both learning a lot.

My problem and my questions are:
Assuming the wiring harnesses are interchangeable (right?)

1) Since we used all the accessories from the Firebird and the wiring harness for the Camaro is so cut up and altered wouldn't it be wise to use the wiring harness from the firebird (it's in excellent shape) ?

2) What's the easiest way to remove the wiring harness and from where?
I see the wiring harness "plugs" in the firewall on the drivers side and I see
the leg of the wiring harness going into the fenderwell of the passenger side.
How do I "unplug" the harness from the drivers side? I've tried but am afraid of breaking it...looking for a trick or tip......thanks for ANY AND ALL ADVICE ON THIS WIRING HARNESS.

Also if anyone has a wiring diagram for these cars it would be GREATLY appreciated

Thank you,

Mainky

we'll probably need to know what the original engines where for the camaro, firebird, and what the 350 came from. also what trans are you using and from what did it come.

what i did was take the original wiring out and power only what i needed.

I'm not sure what the original engine was...When we got the 89 Firebird it had a 305 TBI with a TH350 Transmission. We are using the TH350, Alternator, smog pump, power steering pump, all with unibelt pulleys, AC coils, blower, and some other stuff from the 89 firebird and putting it all in the 82 Camaro. the camaro didn't have an engine when we got it. I will try to look up the numbers for the camaro on the internet. Oh, we didn't use the 305 or TBI from the firebird. We bought an 81 Corvette engine (completely overhauled)with 2.02 heads and are using the Rochester quadrajet Carburetor.

The camaro's wiring harness has fewer wires coming out of the firewall than the firebird did. The camaro has electric windows/trunk.

The drivers door panel stickers are completely unreadable. I am looking for the title right now....I can look up the vin and find out the original stuff right?

The 81 Corvette engine is a 350...didn't say that..sorry

i didnt do it the way you want so i can only be of limited help. so the first thing i did was go to autozone and pick up the service manual. at 15 bucks you probably should too. it has all the diagrams for wiring.
i think that harness comes off with a bolt in the center. i dont know whether it will fit the 82.

if the engine from the vette has the one wire dist. thats an easy hookup, switched 12v from key(probably pink) white wire to the tach. if you have more wires instead of a vacuum, you should go to the JY and get a older model one wire.

the trans is probably not a 350 more likely a 700 unless some one converted it.(probably not) if it is a 700 search the trans forum for TQ lockup options.
