Shift indicator

Can anyone either explain how the shift indicator works, or direct me to the proper thread where the info is? I can't find any info on it anywhere. Reason I ask is because mine comes on intermittently even when I'm in neutral

If you need more schematics for more engines, you can find them here: http://www.austinthirdgen.org/module...howpage&pid=22
