guages dont work, need new gauges?

ok, so some of my guages dont work. the ones that work are the speedo, oil pressure gauge, volt meter, and fuel gauge. my tach and temp guages dont work for some reason. What do you hink could be the cuases of this? and what is the liklyhood that the guages themselves are bad?

are there any cheap alternatives to a new dash guage panel besides getting a used one?
thanks

thers no SES codes? how well does it run? did you do any work to your car recently to cause that?

if your happy with your cluster setup and you figure its the gages themselves, you can steal one from a junkyard, switch over gages to your good one. my cluster has parts from 3 different cars.

my car is running fine. i think the temperature sending unit may be bad, mabye not, idk yet. the guages move up and down. for example the tach will sit at zero untill i start it up and tehn it jumps to the very highest which is off of the numbers(above 7000). so, im not really sure.

is there a cheap way to get new/different looking guages? because all of what v seen is $500+ and being 17, i cant really afford that just for guages

i also forgot to mention that i just recently baught this car, so these guages havnt worked since i have owned it so i have no reference to go by as to what may have cuased this

Take the bezel off and remove the gauges that are acting badly and try to reseat them in the little clips. My Temp gauge came loose from the clips and would read fine one minute and then jump to Max Hot the next and then back to normal again. I reseated the gauge and now it works fine.

To test the sending unit, disconnect it. The gauge should go all the way down. Now, ground the sending unit wire. The gauge should peg (or vice versa, it's been a while, and my truck is different then my car) If it does this, the gauge should be working, and the sending unit is suspect.

The tach is a classic problem, search and there are articles about replacing a capacitor in the gauge that tends to go bad. However, it may be easier to just replace it. Good luck!
